After completing two Academy courses, the student’s path of study needs to be tailored to his/her individual aptitudes with input from an ORBIT Academy instructor.

To enroll in the Oak Ridge Business & Information Technology (ORBIT) Academy, rising ninth graders should enroll in the ORBIT Core class. Special field trips, guest speakers, and industry-recognized certifications bring the real world into the ORBIT Academy classrooms. This Academy is recommended for both university path and technical path students as it is designed to help students develop knowledge and skills necessary to transition seamlessly into post-secondary educational facilities or to join the workforce.

The Business Economics/American Business Legal Systems course satisfies the graduation requirements for both Economics and Government. This is a full-year course, and ½ credit in Economics and ½ credit in government are awarded upon successful completion of the course. This course is available to 11th and 12th graders.

ORBIT Core is a required prerequisite for all other ORBIT Academy courses regardless of the grade level of the student. Exception: The ORBIT Core class is not a required prerequisite for Accounting and/or Business Economics/American Business Legal Systems.

ORBIT Academy Courses: Accounting, Administrative Management, Business Economics/American Business Legal Systems, Computer Repair, Database Design/Management (ORACLE®), Desktop Publishing/Interactive Multimedia Presentations, Financial Planning/Business Management, Integrated Input Technologies (Microsoft Office), Networking Essentials, Senior Work Experience (Co-op), Virtual Enterprises, International™, Web Page Site Design, and Web Site Foundations.
